Dhimmi by geomexia Dhimmi by geomexia
Another piece for my AP Art concentration! Originally this was drawn to be a Pakistani bride, inspired by my two dear friends (& their sister) who showed me some pictures of their relative getting married. It didn't really do justice to Pakistani wedding garb, though. In retrospect, & for the AP test, I made her a "dhimmi," which is the name for a Christian (or Jew, but working with the halo here) within the ancient Arab Muslim empires. Ancient Muslim empires are some spiffy jazz, you should go read up on them. :D

I like the Christian-y moon-halo thing going on, in any case. :)

Art is mine!
Pose is from stock: =lucretia-stock's [link]
Colored primarily with Prismacolor and Sharpie markers.
Photographed and edited in Adobe photoshop.

*Sorry for crummy picture. Better version is coming in late July.

Lovely! And good position of the head with the moon. And I'd have to agree with the outfit not doing justice to the real thing, their wedding garments are beautiful.

stunning - love the soft expression and swan-like pose, its so appealling - the detail in her costume must have taken a while! Love the dark sky behind, its very atmospheric and lends a sense of vulnerability to the woman, gorgeous!
